Change begins with EDUCATION

Education can play a vital role in changing perspectives and promoting social change by fostering critical thinking, encouraging empathy, and facilitating the exploration of diverse viewpoints. Without learning about an issue and the possible solutions, there can be no improvement.

what is pet

overpopulation?

Pet overpopulation means there are more dogs and cats on Guam than there are suitable homes or environments for them to thrive.

This surplus leads to a shelter that is full to capacity, increased euthanasia rates, and a higher number of roaming animals on the streets.

Several factors contribute to pet overpopulation, including:

  • Uncontrolled breeding: Animals reproducing when homes are not available for the offspring.

  • Owner relinquishment: Pets being surrendered due to financial challenges, lifestyle changes, or difficulty providing ongoing care.

  • Lack of spaying/neutering: Pets left intact, or not sterilized, leads to unplanned litters.

  • Lack of education: Not enough awareness about responsible pet ownership and the impact of overpopulation.
